Separate PARENT and TEEN support groups forming soon!

Why are PROACTIVE measures, such as support groups, important for our teens?
Here is an e-mail I just received that says it all:
Joan:
I’ve subscribed to your email because I have a 19 year old daughter who recently started college with ADHD. She is failing badly, without the supports necessary which she had in High School. Any ideas? I am mad at myself for not knowing enough in High School to insist on some post high school planning,or an ADD coach in HS which her neuropschyology report suggested (outside of school, private report). Now, she is lost and any coaching would be self-pay. Any ideas on how I could remedy this?
When it comes to our kids, the expression “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” could not ring more true. Without foreknowledge, about 84% of our kids crash and burn.
In trying to remedy that, I am busy gathering ideas for a phone support group for high school parents, while my son is planning his own group for the teens! So far, this is what has been decided:
-
All sessions will be a minimum of 60 minutes and recorded.
Recordings will be distributed to all participants.
Participants who share their e-mail addresses will receive a list of other participants and can “network” with them without my presence.
Each session will include valuable, downloadable handouts to help set your teen up for success upon transition.
Now, it’s important that we have YOUR input –
- How often should we meet?
Should the sessions have a topic (if so,suggestions please) or be open-ended?
Would you rather pay by the session or have a reduced rate for a “membership”?
Should the number of participants be limited?
Would you like guest speakers? (any suggestions?)
The sooner we iron out the details, the faster we can get this thing moving. From feedback I’m getting, the interest in support groups is VERY STRONG!
How much better does it get than “meeting” on the phone, in the comfort of our homes, with others who are as committed to success as WE are???
Please e-mail me at TransitionSuccess@gmail.com with your ideas ASAP!
