Hardcore evidence that Intel Reader is effective

SRI International* tested the Intel Reader with 98 students with learning disabilities under several conditions to determine
how and when the Intel Reader was most effective as an accommodation.
SRI’s studies were designed to meet standards for conducting rigorous research on educational practices specified by the U.S. Department of Education’s What Works Clearinghouse (2008). These standards were followed so that school administrators could be confident in the results which could be used to make decisions about adopting the Intel Reader for their students and its potential to increase student learning and test performance.
Study Results
Based on the results of the study, under certain conditions it can be expected that students using the Intel Reader could increase their reading comprehension test scores by as much as 23 percentage points, moving some students from failing to passing and others from passing to excelling. Adding the Intel Reader to a school’s overall improvement plan could help the school increase student proficiency which in turn could contribute to sufficient progress towards achieving AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress).
