TWO valuable summer classes for parents of students with LD

I’ve been keeping extremely busy with families in my private practice, helping students and parents navigate post secondary transition according to what’s best in their individual situations. I LOVE MY WORK– it’s tremendously satisfying!

In the summer, however, I enjoy teaching classes where I can dispense valuable transition information, not taught in high schools for the most part, to parents and their teens in a group setting. For the past few summers I’ve been teaching COLLEGE STUDY SKILLS to teens with college aspirations entering grades 9-12. I ask that a parent attend with each student, so that they, too, are aware of strategies and best practices that bode for college success.

This summer, however, I decided to add a second course offering: COLLEGE, OR NO? Why? That’s simple. I don’t believe there’s just ONE route to success. And apparently, according to recently published articles, I’m not alone. Forcing a square peg into a round hole never works–but when it involves thousands of dollars in lost tuition, not to mention and self-esteem, it’s an even worse disaster.

COLLEGE, OR NO? will teach parents how to determine if their teen is “college-ready” before writing that fat tuition check. Some teens are better off learning an in-demand skill rather than graduating college with a mediocre GPA and insufficient knowledge to land a job in their chosen major. For students who are not academically inclined and prefer hands-on learning, there are viable alternatives to college that can almost guarantee work and, depending on level of motivation, financial stability.

COLLEGE STUDY SKILLS and COLLEGE, OR NO? will be taught at Gwynedd Mercy College in Gwynedd Valley, PA, about 40 minutes north of Philadelphia) beginning in June.

Please pass this valuable information on to anyone in the Philadelphia area who can benefit from the information in these courses!
