Desperate Times Call for Desperate Measures

Dear Fellow Parent,

In response to readers who are extremely concerned about their teen's academic future after high school but lack the financial resources for the Conquer College with LD/ADD course, I have great news for you!

I have created something brand new that accomplishes the same end as Conquer College but with a different delivery system and a much more affordable price-The College Coaching Program.

What is The College Coaching Program?

The College Coaching Program guides parents of students in grades 9 - 12 through the complex and often confusing maze of postsecondary transition. It teaches how to prepare for, apply to, and thrive in college.

The College Coaching Program is great for auditory and visual learners (handouts  are e-mailed in advance of each lesson)Coaching is delivered via weekly small-group phone calls, designed for both parents and students, although they need not listen at the same time.  Each lesson is recorded and e-mailed to registrants, so if you miss a live call, you still receive the lesson.

The program consists of ten, one hour+ coaching sessions limited to 10 parents. Each week brings a new lesson on a designated topic.  Participants may interact with me as well as other registrants on the call.  One advantage of group coaching is learning from the questions of other participants.

What Difficulties do our Students Encounter in College?

Those who believe I exaggerate the difficulty our students encounter with postsecondary transition (I have been accused of this!) need only look at recent articles in the media. Not all of these stories have negative outcomes; some provide inspiration for what can happen when students and parents have all their "ducks in a row" ~

                                         What About Guidance Counselors?

Now... I am aware that each high school student is assigned a guidance counselor whose charge is finding appropriate colleges  to which your teen can apply. However, did you know that it is not unusual for these counselors to have case loads of 300 students?

Even at small, independent schools, guidance counselors are overworked.

If we assume that all guidance counselors do a thorough job of finding the best college fit, the fact is that high schools lack the time and resources needed to teach students with disabilities how to prepare for and succeed in college. Most colleges don't address these issues either. As a result, it doesn't take long for unprepared students to feel as if they've been overcome by a tsunami....and we all know how much havoc tsunamis can wreak.

What is the Value of a College Degree?

Let's explore, for a moment, the value of a college degree.  Here are five ways that college will make you a better person:

1. It will likely make you more prosperous.

2. It will give you a better quality of life.

3. It will give you the power to change the world.

4. It will be something you can pass on to your children.

5. It makes you a great contributor to the greatest nation on earth.

Many of these benefits, however, are "touchy-feely". Let's talk about something tangible: MONEY.

The lifetime income of families headed by individuals with a bachelor's degree will be about $1.6 million more than the incomes of families headed by those with a high-school diploma (Postsecondary Education Opportunity Research Letter).

A college education is an extraordinarily profitable investment. Every dollar spent on a young person's college education produces $34.85 in increased lifetime income. Any Wall Street stockbroker would envy that kind of investment yield -- especially these days. You say you can't afford to go to college? The Postsecondary Education Opportunity Research Letter says you can't afford not to.

College may be expensive, but the only thing more expensive than getting a college education is not getting one. The income differential empowers you to make choices that enrich your life.

Given the extraordinary yield of college, I'm still puzzled when parents say they can't afford the preparation for college. They consider preparation a "luxury" when in actuality, it's a necessity.

                                         The "Alan B. Krueger Influence"

In order to reach a wider audience and really affect change for our students, I have made the difficult decision to dramatically decrease my prices. Why was this decision difficult? Because although you may not know the value of this course, I do. My own son with LD/ADD succeeded in college using the skills and strategies I teach, as did many of my students. Part of me feels that lowering the price somehow "devalues" the course, when that is the last thing I intend.  As a matter of fact, there isn't a dollar amount high enough to put on my son's accomplishment and the pride in his victory.

On the other hand, I've decided that desperate times call for desperate measures. Walk into any store and you'll see "50% off", even "75% off" signs. In this economy, aren't we quicker to see value when we can afford the price?

How do YOU Make "Money" Decisions?

When it comes to any decision involving money, I like to do a cost/benefits analysis. Will the time, energy and money I spend yield a greater return?

In the case of college preparation, the answer is a definite YES--assuming your teen is of normal intelligence, wants to go to college, and will accept help.

If you adhere to the directives of The College Coaching Program, the chances of success increase exponentially. In fact, you are likely to have the same deliriously-happy results our family had, as well as the families of other students I've taught.

I must remind you however, that if your child is unmotivated, refuses to acknowledge a learning difference, and wants to do everything on his own, THIS COURSE IS NOT FOR YOU (at least not yet - sometimes a few years of maturity makes all the difference).

OH, DID I MENTION THE FIRST LESSON IS FREE?

Here is the course outline:

Week 1 - How College Savvy are You?

Week 2 - How Know Thyself Correlates to Success

Week 3 - Alternatives after High School

Week 4 - High School vs. College

Week 5 - Prepare Now for Success

Week 6 - The College Search (how to "vet" schools) and the

                     Application Process

Week 7- Post-Acceptance (selection, etc)

Week 8 - Success Strategies that Keep You in College

Week 9 - The Power of Active Studying

Week 10 - Technologies that Levels the Playing Field

Some of the lessons will include input from actual students who are using these strategies successfully, focusing on their strengths but learning  to compensate for their weaknesses.

The beauty of The College Coaching Program is that it cycles. It is not imperative that you start at the beginning, just that you take all the lessons you need. If you have a son or daughter already in college and doing poorly, I can help you decide which lessons are vital.

The College Coaching Program begins Monday, November 9th, 9 PM (EST), and meets every Monday at the same time, with the exception of holidays. You can complete the entire cycle in 10 weeks.

Remember, the first lesson is FREE. You pay zero now. If you are dissatisfied after the first lesson, simply quit and owe nothing. If you decide to continue, that is when you pay.

The cost of the entire program is just $347 (which can be the price of 2 - 3 textbooks), or if you prefer, $44 per lesson!  Each lesson includes e-mailed handouts for you to print prior to the lesson.  It doesn't get much better than this!

Those who purchase the entire program receive unlimited e-mail access to me for the duration of the course.

Feel free to e-mail or call me if you have questions or wish to speak with former registrants.
